My Self Tanning Routine

Self Tanning is something that I have done now for several years.   When I tell you that I have tried so many brands, believe me!  Haha!  I searched for the best tanner that would give me a natural, dark tan with NO orange undertone.  Loving Tan is the brand I went back to time and time again because of the natural deep glow it gives me!  It wears off so well, and there are a ton of shade options for any skin tone.  I personally use the Platinum shade for the darkest possible tan!  One of my favorite things about this tanner is that it has a tint of bronzer in it.  This allows you to see exactly where you are applying the tanner.  Very helpful!

I tan about once a week.  On the evenings I plan to self tan, I take a shower, shave, and exfoliate well!  When I say that I exfoliate, I literally just use a wet washcloth and rub all over my skin while in the shower. That is honestly the best way that I have found to prep my skin!   So simple!   Before applying the tanner, I lotion my hands, feet, knees, and elbows well.  Just use a good everyday body moisturizer.   The skin around your hands, feet, knees, and elbows tend to be more dry, so applying a moisturizer beforehand helps the tanner to apply more smoothly.

A tanning mitt is definitely a must to get an even tan.  (You can actually get a free mitt by using my code KALEE at checkout on the Loving Tan website!)  When I begin, I put two pumps of tanner on my mitt and apply to a small section.  Small sections are key when doing self tanner to control how much is applied.   For example, lower half of arm, upper half of arm, stomach, upper leg, lower leg, etc.  I suggest sticking to these smaller sections and rubbing in well.  This is the best way that I have found for an even application!   I have my husband help with applying the tanner to my back.  If you don’t have someone to help, there are applicators you can purchase to be able to do your back yourself!

The part of self tanning that many people struggle with is the hands and feet.  I use a big Kabuki style body brush and brush on your feet and hands.   You have the lotion on your feet and hands so it will apply evenly.  Spread your toes and fingers out when applying to get it everywhere.  The brush will make a huge difference if you struggle with tanner on your hands and feet looking blotchy!

When I need to tan my face, I only use the specific face tanner.   I do not use the regular body tanner for my face because I worry that it will cause me to break out.   The face tanner is more like a cream and not a foam.  Just apply it like a lotion and rub it in well!

Does the tanner rub off on your sheets?  This question is asked often when I talk about my tanning products.   The answer is not much, if any.   I wear a big t-shirt and pants to bed when I tan so that keeps it from getting on my sheets.  If I happen to get any on the sheets, it just washes right out.
If you are looking for a good, natural looking self tanner, I highly recommend giving Loving Tan a try.   It is by far my favorite tanner I’ve used!  For the price of a spray tan, you can get a full bottle of tanner that will last you many applications!  I have a video tutorial showing how I apply my tanner at this link if that helps.  https://www.facebook.com/share/v/zSMyRgpSKHpZsN1o/?mibextid=WC7FNe
