Why I Lift 4 Times A Week

As much as I love walking and think it is essential in overall health, I also equally believe lifting regularly is just as important.  However, I don’t think it is something that should be done daily, nor should it be overdone.  Cutting back on the number of days that I would workout or lift was one big adjustment that I had made to my workout routine last year.  I was working out for 30 minutes to an hour or more, six days a week.  Once I started walking daily, I cut my workouts back to only 4 days a week.   Not only did it help aid my weight loss, but it also made a huge difference in my lean muscle mass.

I truly believe lifting needs to be in everyone’s fitness routine.  It doesn’t have to be the same amount of days or time, as long as it is consistent.  One important thing I do when lifting is increase the weights once I am comfortable or not as challenged using the current weights. This helps to increase strength, and also helps to define muscles!

Lifting weights as a woman is known to have many benefits.  It accelerates fat loss when combined with some sort of cardio.  This cardio can be just your daily walking.  As mentioned before, it helps tone and shape your curves.  You will have more energy throughout the day.  A body in motion, stays in motion!  Lifting has shown to improve bone health and can give you a better sleep quality!  You will have overall better heart health, blood lipid profiles, and insulin sensitivity.

How do you get started lifting if you never have?  I would suggest starting with 3-5 lbs weights.  You need something that challenges you, but yet that you are able to complete the reps with proper form.  Once you get comfortable with those weights, then move up!  I personally love following the Weekly Moves program with the MOVES app!   It has really helped me to improve my form and abilities.  However, any program you decide to go with, be sure that you stay consistent.   That truly is key!

I’ll link the MOVES app that I use below.  You can get a free 7 day trial if you want to check it out!
